India Ranks 3rd in Asia Power Index: Rising Influence, Lagging Economy

India has climbed to third place in Asia’s Power Index, as per the 2024 report by Australia’s Lowy Institute. This ranking positions India just behind the United States and China, overtaking Japan. However, the report highlights that while India’s diplomacy has strengthened, its economic influence in Asia remains weak. India’s reluctance to integrate with regional trade agreements is seen as a key factor. Despite this, India’s partnerships through initiatives like the Quad are boosting its presence in the Indo-Pacific, but the nation still has unrealized potential for future growth.
