In a landmark ruling, a retired Gujarat police constable, Amart Makwana, has been sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment for demanding a bribe of Rs 500 in 2014. The Morbi district court found Makwana guilty after extensive proceedings, stemming from a case where he pressured a woman for bribe during her passport verification. Caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Makwana’s actions highlighted the pervasive issue of corruption. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000, adding a month of imprisonment if unpaid.
