Shah, Mayawati, and Shinde Criticize His Reservation Abolition Statement
In a recent statement at Georgetown University, Rahul Gandhi suggested that the Congress might consider scrapping reservation policies “when India is a fair place.” This remark has sparked a fierce response from several prominent figures. Union Home Minister Amit Shah condemned Gandhi’s comment, accusing him of exposing the Congress’s anti-reservation stance and asserting that the BJP will not allow any changes to the reservation system.
BSP chief Mayawati and Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde also criticized Gandhi, with Shinde alleging that his views are a reflection of Congress’s history of playing politics with caste and religion. Mayawati warned that the Congress’s actions often contradict their statements on SC, ST, and OBC issues.
Gandhi, currently in the US, met with lawmakers including Ilhan Omar, known for her controversial stance on India. In response to the backlash, Gandhi clarified that his remarks were misinterpreted and that he supports increasing reservation beyond the 50% cap.
