In Mumbai, political tensions are escalating following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud’s residence for Ganpati puja. The opposition Shiv Sena (UBT) has called for the CJI to recuse himself from the Shiv Sena and NCP MLAs’ disqualification case, citing potential conflicts of interest. In response, BJP’s deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted a past instance where then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh hosted an iftar party with the then CJI K G Balakrishnan. NCP MP Supriya Sule expressed surprise but maintained faith in the judiciary. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut criticized the visit, suggesting it could undermine public trust in the judicial process.
