Joe Root is set to make history in the third Test against Sri Lanka starting September 6 at the Oval. The England batter needs just 52 runs to become the first player to score 5,000 runs in the World Test Championship (WTC). Currently at 4,948 runs, Root has a chance to surpass the WTC milestone and also become England’s leading Test run-scorer, surpassing Alastair Cook’s record of 12,472 runs. With 34 centuries already, Root could also reach his 35th century, joining an elite group.
