Hurricane Gilma Intensifies as It Moves Eastward in the Pacific Ocean

As of August 23, 2024, Hurricane Gilma is the second hurricane of the 2024 East Pacific hurricane season. It is currently classified as a major Category 3 storm with maximum sustained winds of 125 mph (205 kph).

The storm has shown potential to strengthen further, with forecasts suggesting it could reach Category 4 status. However,

there are no coastal watches or warnings in effect as Gilma remains away from land and is traveling eastward in the Pacific Ocean. Meanwhile, Tropical Storm Hone is also active in the Pacific,

though it poses a different set of threats, particularly to Hawaii, where strong winds and heavy rain are expected this weekend .
